The Academy of Sign Language is a privately owned business located in New Jersey, aimed at bridging the gap between Deaf and hearing communities. The Academy offers a wide range of services from private tutoring to general classes. Specialized programs can be designed to meet the needs of any individual. The Academy of Sign Language is geared toward providing a superior sign language education, no matter one's level of experience or background. Whether you are a working interpreter looking to develop your skills or a parent of a deaf child, the Academy of Sign Language can meet your needs.

Natalie Callis
Natalie Callis is an EIPA certified interpreter. Natalie is fluent in both ASL and in various systems of Signed English. Natalie currently works as an educational and freelance interpreter. She has years of experience teaching sign language to both deaf and hearing children and their families..
*All Academy staff members are fluent in both ASL and Signed English.

Michelle Barsch M.Ed.
Michelle is a certified teacher with a Master's degree in Educational leadership and administration. Michelle has worked as a teacher of the deaf, providing deaf and hard of hearing students with the tools needed to achieve success. She is a freelance sign language interpreter. Michelle is EIPA certified and received a superior rating on the SLPI. Michelle Barsch is a faculty member at Ocean County College within the Sign Language Interpreter Program.

Video Critiquing
Too busy to meet in person? Send the Academy your signing video clip via email. We will critique your skills and send you detailed feedback with suggestions for improvement.

Individual Instruction / Tutoring
Individual instruction - $50 an hour
Group Discount Available
(each fee is divided by the number of participants)
Groups of two to four people - $50 an hour
Groups of four to ten people - $60 an hour
Groups of ten to twenty people - $100 an hour
*Fees for large group and special events can be arranged with the director.
